On February 20th, 2008 we attended a rally at the American Academy of Pediatrics in Elk Grove Village, just outside of Chicago. You can view a highlight video of some of the footage that is attached to this blog entry. The rally was organized by the nonprofit organization Moms Against Mercury, with the help and support of many other organizations. This rally was in response to a letter that was written by the AAP President to ABC demanding that ABC not air the premier episode of ‘Eli Stone’. I have attached a link at the bottom of this blog entry to view the letter. In the episode, a mother is awarded $5.2 million dollars after the court rules the preservative “mercuritol”, which is a code word for the mercury based preservative “thimerosal”, caused her son’s autism. The AAP’s letter reflects their concerns that the public could be led to believe vaccines cause autism, therefore causing people to avoid vaccinations with the potential risk of a major disease outbreak among the population. Many parents and organizations believe that vaccines do cause autism, and saw this letter as another way the AAP and other government organizations with liability at stake are trying to hide the toxicity of some ingredients in vaccines, such as mercury. In the letter, the AAP threatens ABC and states that “ABC will bear the responsibility for the needless suffering and potential deaths of children from parents decisions not to immunize based on the content of the episode”. The letter also urges ABC to have a disclaimer that states “No mercury is used as a preservative in routinely offered childhood vaccines”. We feel that this statement needs to be clarified, as 94% of all flu shots still contain the full 25 mcg of mercury. Flu shots are now routinely administered to infants and pregnant women, not to mention the trace amounts of mercury that is still in many of the other mandatory childhood shots left over from the manufacturing process. This is very important information, as many pediatricians also believe there is no longer mercury in vaccines, assuring trusting parents the vaccines are mercury free, when the reality is that mercury is still in vaccines. http://www.aap.org/advocacy/releases/LettertoABC.pdf Logged by: Eric Gladen on March 5th, 2008 |
